Changing things up! Our Family Room's getting a 'Makeover'.

It's 2012 and the FAMILY ROOM is getting a makeover!!  Here's how the family room looked when we bought our home in 2008:

Not sure what the previous owners had used this room for.  But...I could NOT live with it this way and Todd wasn't really ready to remodel this room.   So we did a temporary fix.  We kept the furniture we moved with us and gave the cream colored paneled walls a coat of khaki paint.  Todd replaced the fan/light fixture with one we brought with us.  Then removed the  wooden cornices from over the patio doors and front windows.   Tore out the smelly carpet and put down pretty wood flooring.  Soon afterwards we added a mantel.

So...we did a "Temporary " fix to make it livable!  (see below)

Well.....Now Todd has decided to do our 'PERMANENT MAKEOVER'.   So, I now have most of the above furniture on Craigslist.  Most is down in the basement,  the rest is stuffed in our Dining Room!  We went shopping and found a neutral Sofa and a new rug....(which haven't arrived yet!)  Can't wait to show them.  Once we get the rug in, we will choose a paint color!!!!!  So excited!!!

Due to the many books Todd has accumulated and read, he wants built-ins on either side of the fireplace to display them in.  (I myself read on a Kindle).

So the emptying out process began Saturday night....
Good-bye odds and ends!
Removing the valance & curtains I'd made for over the patio doors!

Good bye old TV!

One of two matching chairs which I had re-upholstered (and never blogged about!)
Getting emptied out!
Good-bye dear old friend!
Floor and fireplace is all that's remaining!
View from the kitchen
Good-Bye rug that went so well with the red sofa & love seat!
(Just another view)
The cedar chest/coffee table mayyyyyyy be staying!  Been in Todd's family a long time!

Anyway....After removing everything... Todd started with scraping off the popcorn texture on the ceiling, and removing the crown molding and paneling, (except where the built-ins will go) :
Removing part of the molding around beams!
Beams have to stay!
And so...outside to dispose of paneling
Cutting to make it fit in back of pickup to haul away!
He is definitely a 'neat' and 'organized' worker!
Back and forth....in and out the house, all weekend!  He's such a dedicated worker!!
Done?
These were our temporary shades on patio doors!
Salvaged most of the molding!  (New windows Todd recently installed!)
I numbered and diagrammed all molding to be painted white and put back later!
Our computer desk!  (I kept it hooked up until no longer possible).
Removed shelving above computer desk....you can see the original color of the paneling!
Now Todd and friend replacing old french patio doors
Nice!  Have built in blinds!!!!  (no more dusty window coverings)
Tah Dah!!!!!
:D  all new outlets!!!!
to be continued!!!!
